COMEINITIATIVE

Privacy Policy

This explains what COME Initiative collects when you use this website, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Effective 17 September 2026

Who we are

COME Initiative — Community Mentorship and Empowerment Initiative — is a youth-led community-based organisation in Kisumu, Kenya. We are the data controller for personal data collected through https://comeinitiative.org.

Post: Orongo, Kisumu–Nairobi Highway, Kisumu County, Kenya
Email: info@comeinitiative.org

What we collect, and when

When you use the contact form. Your name, your email address, your message, and your organisation if you choose to give one. Nothing on this form is collected unless you fill it in and submit it.

When your browser loads a page. Our hosting provider records technical information automatically — the pages requested, the time, your browser type and your IP address. We use this only to keep the site running and secure. We do not use it to build a profile of you.

We do not run analytics or advertising on this website. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracker of any kind. If that ever changes, we will ask your permission first and this page will change on the same day.

Cookies and site storage

This site sets one item of storage in your browser: a record of your answer to the cookie notice, so that we do not ask you again on every page. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Because we run no analytics and no advertising, there is nothing else to consent to today. The notice exists so that the choice is genuinely yours the moment there is anything to choose.

Why we are allowed to hold it

Under sections 30 and 32 of the Data Protection Act 2019, we rely on your consent when you send us a message — you chose to write to us, and you may withdraw that at any time — and on our legitimate interest in keeping the website available and secure for the technical records our host keeps.

Who else sees it

Your enquiry is recorded in our own records system, which our technology provider operates for us on servers in South Africa, and our team is told about it by email. The website is hosted on infrastructure operated by a hosting provider. These providers act on our instructions and none is permitted to use your data for their own purposes. Their servers are outside Kenya, so your message is transmitted abroad in the course of reaching us; we rely on the contractual safeguards those providers offer under section 49 of the Act.

We do not sell personal data. We do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it of us.

How long we keep it

Enquiries stay in our records for as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a record of what was agreed — normally no more than two years — and are then deleted.

Your rights

The Data Protection Act 2019 gives you the right to:

  • be told what personal data we hold about you, and to be given a copy
  • have anything inaccurate corrected
  • have your data deleted where there is no good reason for us to keep it
  • object to what we are doing with it, or ask us to restrict it
  • withdraw your consent at any time, without it affecting anything done beforehand

Write to info@comeinitiative.org and we will answer within the statutory period. There is no charge.

Children

Our programmes work with young people, and some of them are children. This notice covers this website only. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through this site, and the contact form is intended for adults.

If you are not satisfied

Please tell us first — most things are quickest to fix directly. If we cannot resolve it, you have the right to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, whose contact details are at odpc.go.ke.

Changes to this notice

If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we will update this page and change the effective date above. Material changes will be announced on the site.
